BHSU To Recognize Cross Country And Track Teams
Spearfish, S.D. – Black Hills State University will recognize the men’s and women’s cross country teams as well as the men’s and women’s track teams at halftime of the men’s basketball game on Wednesday.
Earlier this season, the men’s and women’s cross country teams won the Dakota Athletic Conference Championship. Erin Curran won the individual DAC title while Mitch Kraft and Courtney Dickson were each named as the DAC Freshman of the Year. Scott Walkinshaw was voted as the DAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.
The cross country teams then went on to compete at the NAIA Championships. The women’s team placed third in the national meet and the men’s team finished 18th. Black Hills State had a combined team finish of fourth. Curran and Dickson were both named NAIA All-Americans.
In track and Field, the Black Hills State women’s team claimed the DAC Indoor Track & Field Championship last weekend. The men’s track and field team placed second. Erin Curran and Mila Andric were named Co-Track Athletes of the DAC Meet. Alaina Yaracz was named the Field Athlete of the meet on the women's side after winning both the weight throw and the shot put competitions. Travis Covey was voted as the DAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
Individuals who have qualified from the men’s and women’s track teams will travel to Geneva, Ohio to compete in the NAIA National Championship Meet on March 3-5.
The team recognitions will occur at halftime of the Black Hills State men’s basketball game against Mayville State on Wednesday, February 23. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. MT. Tickets are available in advance at the Young Center or at the gate.
