BHSU women’s rodeo team captures Great Plains Region Championship Title

The Black Hills State University women's rodeo team captured the Great Plains Region Year End Championship Title at the final rodeo of the regular season in the Great Plains Region at the Blue Hawk Stampede, Dickinson, N.D. The men's team concluded the season in third place in the region. Glen Lammers, BHSU Rodeo Coach, was also named Coach of the Year for the Great Plains Region.

Joey Painter, Buffalo, took home honors of all-around cowgirl, as well as the goat tying and breakaway championships for the region. On the men's team, Tye Hale, White Owl, received reserve all-around cowboy and finished in third place in the team roping. Taylor Williams, Volborg, Mont., received the reserve champion heeler for region.

Both the men's and women's team placed second at the Blue Hawk Stampede. Hale, took home the men's all-around title, a first place finish in tie down roping with a time of 19.9 seconds, and finished fifth in steer wrestling. Kyle Wilson, Deer River, Minn., placed fifth in tie down roping with a time of 29.5 seconds.

Painter had a first place finish in goat tying with a time of 11.8 seconds and earned fifth place in breakaway roping. Megan Steiger, Mobridge, finished third in breakaway roping. Jamie Britton, Buffalo, and her partner and Logan Nehl, from Dickinson State University, took first place in team roping with a time of 27.2 seconds on two. Taylor Shoemaker, Faith, and Sam Olson, Buffalo, finished second in team roping with 36.7 seconds on two. Shandel Yordy, Martin, placed fourth in goat tying with a time of 13.3 seconds.
