Spearfish, S.D. – The Yellow Jacket Rodeo team will be sending seven athletes to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. on June 15 through the 21st. The position draw for the first three rounds was held on Friday, June 6 with first go events starting on June 15. The athletes will use the three rounds to try to place in the top 12 in each event to move on to the final round on June 21.
Competing for the men will be seniors Sam Olson and Ty Krantz and juniors Ty Clarke and Rowdy Curr. Captain Sam Olson will return to the CNFR stage in the steer wrestling event and will try to better his 28th place finish from last year. Making their first appearances will be Krantz, Clarke and Curr in the team roping event.
On the women’s side, freshmen Samantha Jorgenson, Madison Huber, and Katie Lensegrav will be representing Black Hills State. Jorgenson will compete in both the team roping and breakaway roping events while Lensegrav will compete in the goat tying, and Huber will compete in the barrel racing event.
“Our team is definitely looking forward to competing on the biggest stage in college rodeo,” said Rodeo Coach Glen Lammers. “I believe if we trust in our abilities and stick to our fundamentals, we can be very competitive at nationals.”
The top two College Rodeo Teams in each region qualify for the CNFR as well as student-athletes who finish in the top three regionally. First event starts at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15 and the final events will be held on Saturday, June 21. For more information and a schedule of events go to CNFR.com.
