Spearfish, S.D. – Black Hills State University softball team split with Dickinson State in an exhibition match-up in Spearfish Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets won the first game by a score of 1-0 and fell in the second game by a score of 10-2.
The Yellow Jackets were led by senior Katie Wagner on the mound; Wagner pitched all seven innings for Black Hills State and only gave up one hit and struck-out five batters. Senior Karly Ackerman led the offensive charge for the Yellow Jackets she finished with two hits on three at bats and scored the winning run.
Black Hills State came up short in the second game where sophomore Kelsie Chambers took the mound for the Yellow Jackets. Chambers finished the contest giving up nine runs on 12 hits, Chambers pitched 5.2 innings. Junior Nikki Chacon closed the game for Black Hills State, she gave up one run on two hits. Chambers had two hits on three at bats and scored one run.
The Yellow Jackets will open the regular season at Fort Lewis in Durango, Colo. on February 25, 2012, the first pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
