HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Black Hills State's first shot of the contest occurred in the eighth minute of play when Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta fired a shot from straight away, 25 yards out, that went wide right following a takeaway.
  • The Roadrunners found the back of the net for the first goal of the match in the 21st minute off a corner kick set, when Sami Spring headed the ball into the top left corner of the net off a pass from Meg Gonzalez to make it a 1-0 game.
  • MSUD tacked on a second goal in the 33rd minute when Maya Woods received a pass from Grace Johnson before firing a shot from the top left corner of the box that tipped in on the save attempt.
  • MSU Denver scored their third and final goal of the match in the closing minutes of the first half as Monica Yoder found Elly Peterson at the top of the box and she proceeded to do a turnaround move and placed the ball just under the crossbar into the top of the net for a 3-0 lead in the 44th minute.
  • In the 61st minute of play, defenders Zoe Evans and Allie Brown helped Makayla Dannelly fend off another Roadrunner attack into the box, which included Brown deflecting a shot attempt and clearing it out of the box. In total Dannelly made three saves during the second half to keep MSUD off the scoreboard in the frame.
  • The Yellow Jackets lone shot on target during the match occurred in the 81st minute when Whitney Hansen placed a shot towards the bottom left corner of the net following a Roadrunner turnover, however the ball would be jumped on by Kylie Bach for the save.
